Kaunas is the largest industrial area in Lithuania. It is situated in the center of Lithuania, in the valley of the two longest rivers of Lithuania, Nemunas and Neris. Lithuania itself is located on the east side of the Baltic Sea. Kaunas is first mentioned by the chronicles in 1361 although it is known that people have lived in that area since the 3rd or 4th century. With a population of approximately 415,000 residents, Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania.
